Former Maccabi Netanya Owner Eli Segev Dies at 73 in South Africa
Eli Segev, a former owner of the Israeli football club Maccabi Netanya, passed away at the age of 73 on Saturday in Johannesburg, South Africa. Segev suffered a stroke and experienced related medical complications before his death. He was hospitalized last Tuesday in a sedated and ventilated state, and his death was confirmed today.
Segev led Maccabi Netanya during the 2013/14 season alongside Yossi Maor, a period in which he helped the club return from the National League to the Premier League. He decided to leave the club at the end of 2014 and subsequently focused on his private business ventures in South Africa.
Maccabi Netanya expressed deep condolences, describing Segev as a significant figure during a dynamic and unforgettable era in the club's history. The club's management, players, staff, and fans extended their sympathies to his family, who are currently arranging to bring his body back to Israel for burial.
