Rabid Dog Found in West Bank Settlement Prompts Preventive Treatment for Four

The Israeli Ministry of Health reported the detection of a rabid dog in the settlement of Neve Tzuf, located in the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council, on the evening of July 29, 2026. The dog, described as medium-sized and brown, was identified as carrying rabies. Following the discovery, four individuals who had contact with the dog have received preventive rabies treatment.

The Ministry urged anyone who had contact with the infected dog or with animals that may have interacted with it between June 24 and July 29, 2026, to urgently contact the Ramla District Health Office or their local health office to assess the need for preventive treatment. After office hours and during weekends, people are advised to go to hospital emergency rooms.

Additional guidance was provided for parents to check if their children had contact with suspicious animals and to seek immediate medical advice if so. Pet owners were instructed to consult their veterinarians to verify their animals' vaccination status. The Ministry also called on the public to share information about the incident with hikers and visitors in the affected area and nearby communities.

The Ministry emphasized that anyone bitten or scratched by an animal should immediately wash the wound with running water and soap, disinfect it, and promptly visit a health office to determine if preventive rabies treatment is necessary.
