80-Year-Old Man Dies as Balcony Collapses onto Bakery Roof in Jerusalem

An 80-year-old man was killed when a balcony above Angel Bakery in Jerusalem's Rehavia neighborhood collapsed on the evening of July 20, 2026. The man was inside the bakery with his wife and five grandchildren, who all sustained minor injuries and witnessed the fatal accident.

Security footage from a nearby street camera captured the balcony detaching from the left side of the building and crashing onto the bakery's roof below. Passersby at the scene immediately rushed to assist and called emergency services, who began searching for anyone trapped under the rubble.

Local resident Dan Shoshan described the chaotic scene to N12, saying, "People were panicked among the debris, and we acted quickly to rescue them. Bystanders prevented further collapse of parts of the building with their hands." Rescue efforts continued as authorities investigated the cause of the structural failure.
