Jerusalem Bakery Balcony Collapses Hours After Engineer Inspection, One Dead

Security footage captured the moment a balcony collapsed onto a bakery on KKL Street in the Rehavia neighborhood of Jerusalem on Monday afternoon. Earlier that day, an engineer had visited the site after structural issues were identified with the balcony. Despite the inspection, the balcony gave way within hours.

Emergency services completed search and rescue operations at the scene. An approximately 80-year-old man was found deceased under the rubble. A woman, also about 80, was rescued conscious and in light condition. Two teenagers, around 16 years old, suffered minor back abrasions, and three others experienced anxiety and received treatment on site without hospital transport.

Deputy Commander Shay Nehemiah described the scene as extremely complex and destructive. He praised the firefighters for their professionalism and swift action in locating trapped individuals and conducting thorough searches. Despite their efforts, one victim was recovered without signs of life. Authorities expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
