80-Year-Old Man Dies as Balcony Collapses onto Bakery Roof in Jerusalem

An 80-year-old man was killed when a balcony above Angel Bakery in Jerusalem's Rehavia neighborhood collapsed on Monday evening. The man was inside the bakery with his wife and five grandchildren, who all sustained minor injuries in the incident. The grandchildren witnessed the tragic collapse that fatally injured their grandfather.

Footage from a street camera across from the bakery shows the balcony detaching from the left side of the building and crashing onto the bakery's roof below. Numerous bystanders at the scene immediately rushed to assist and called emergency services, who began searching for anyone trapped under the debris.

Local resident Dan Shoshan told N12 that people were panicked amid the rubble, and bystanders physically prevented further parts of the building from collapsing. Rescue efforts continued as authorities worked to secure the area and provide aid to those affected.

The cause of the balcony collapse has not yet been determined, and investigations are expected to follow. The incident has deeply shocked the Rehavia community, highlighting concerns about building safety in the area.
