Waze Launches 'Less Talk' Mode and AI-Powered Personalization to Enhance Navigation

Waze, the navigation app owned by Google, has introduced a new feature called "Less Talk" designed to reduce voice notifications during driving. Instead of announcing every minor event on the route, the app will now focus only on important turn instructions and safety alerts. Users can activate this setting through the "Voice and Sound" menu within the app.

Alongside the quieter mode, Google has integrated AI-powered personalization based on its Gemini artificial intelligence model. This system learns from the driver’s previous route choices and preferences to suggest optimized routes that consider not only traffic congestion but also individual driving habits, aiming to save time.

The update also includes a new voice reporting feature that allows users to report traffic incidents and map updates hands-free via the voice assistant, eliminating the need to press buttons. Additionally, the voice search function has been enhanced to handle complex queries, such as finding the nearest gas station with the lowest prices, providing tailored results.

These updates are rolling out globally starting today for both Android and iOS users. Google emphasizes that the goal is to make navigation smarter and less intrusive, operating seamlessly in the background by leveraging the inference capabilities of new language models.
