Israel's Supreme Court criticized Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana for delaying a vote for State Comptroller, ruling his actions violated a previous court order and harmed governmental order. • Supreme Court criticized Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana for delaying State Comptroller vote.
  • Court ruled Ohana's delay violated a previous order and harmed governmental order.
  • A petition to set a date for the vote was dismissed due to new Knesset elections.
  • Ohana was ordered to pay 10,000 shekels in legal costs.

Israel's Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking to set a date for a vote to elect a State Comptroller, but issued a strong rebuke to Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana. The court ruled that Ohana's decision to postpone the vote until after the upcoming elections constituted a "severe blow to the order of government and the regime," violating a previous court order.

The petition was based on a July 2, 2026, ruling that had ordered a new vote for the State Comptroller after the initial round was invalidated. Justices Yitzhak Amit, Khaled Kabub, and Ruth Ronen found that Ohana had failed to schedule this repeat vote, contrary to the Knesset's legal advisor's position and the court's prior judgment.

Despite the criticism, the court dismissed the petition due to changed political circumstances. The election of the 26th Knesset the previous Tuesday created difficulties in implementing the original ruling, which pertained to candidates in the 25th Knesset. The Knesset's legal advisor had acknowledged the principle of the petitioner's stance but highlighted potential implementation challenges.

As a consequence of Ohana's actions, the Supreme Court ordered him to pay 10,000 shekels in legal costs.
