Major Forest Fire Erupts Near Ben Shemen Forest, Disrupting Traffic

A large brush and treetop fire broke out Wednesday in the Ben Shemen Forest area, spreading rapidly due to weather conditions and reaching near major highways 1, 6, and 444. The blaze prompted a significant response from emergency services, with approximately 12 firefighting teams and four firefighting aircraft actively working to contain the flames. Dozens more teams are en route to provide assistance.

Fire Commissioner Eyal Caspi ordered a nationwide mobilization of resources, with about 50 additional firefighting teams from across the country heading to the scene to bolster the efforts. The ground crews are concentrating on blocking the fire's front and preventing its westward spread, while the aircraft are conducting water and retardant drops.

Authorities have closed Highway 444 in both directions and are urging the public to avoid the area, including nearby sections of Highways 1 and 6. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and follow the instructions of police and security forces directing traffic and ensuring public safety.
