A large brush and treetop fire broke out on Wednesday in the Ben Shemen Forest area, near Highways 444, 1, and 6, causing significant traffic disruptions during peak hours. Road 444 near the Ben Shemen interchange was closed in both directions, and Highway 6 northbound near the interchange was also shut down. The fire began in an open area and rapidly spread, jumping across Road 444 to Highways 1 and 6.
Initially, 12 firefighting and rescue teams worked to contain the blaze and prevent its westward spread.
