A large brush and treetop fire is raging in the Ben Shمن forest area, rapidly spreading towards major roads in the Gush Dan and Central regions of Israel. The fire, which began in an open area, has escalated quickly due to terrain conditions and is now threatening vital transportation arteries including Highways 1, 6, and 444.
In response to the fire's spread and its proximity to key transit routes, the Chief of Fire and Rescue Services, Eyal Caspi, has ordered a nationwide emergency mobilization. Approximately 50 additional firefighting teams from across the country are en route to the scene, joining the 12 initial teams working to contain the fire's front and prevent its westward expansion. Four firefighting aircraft are also conducting targeted water drops.
The extensive mobilization underscores the severity of the situation and concerns about further spread, particularly towards residential areas and other infrastructure. Police and security forces are on site managing traffic, and the public is urged to avoid the affected highway sections and use alternative routes.
The Ben Shمن forest area has experienced several fires recently. This incident follows a fire in a refrigerated truck near Hadera a few days ago and a brush fire near the Hadera junction two weeks prior, both exacerbated by strong winds.
