Israeli airline Arkia announced on Wednesday that it is suspending its flights to Marrakech, Morocco, until further notice and halting ticket sales to the destination. The decision follows security demands from the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) after an attempted attack on a Flydubai flight. Due to uncertainty regarding optimal security measures for flights to Morocco and a requirement to use chartered aircraft, Arkia has opted to pause its services.
El Al had also planned to resume flights to Morocco through its Sun D'or brand in mid-November but has since reversed that intention. El Al has not yet issued an official statement regarding tickets already sold. Israir had already stopped selling tickets to Marrakech last week, despite Israeli airlines planning a significant increase in flights to the destination during November.
Arkia stated that if authorities decide to halt flights by Israeli companies to Marrakech, the airline will explore alternatives, including operating flights through commercial partners, to potentially continue the route.
