Israeli airline Arkia announced on Wednesday that it is suspending its flights to Marrakech, Morocco, until further notice and halting ticket sales to the destination. This decision follows directives from the Shin Bet security agency in the wake of an attempted attack on a Flydubai flight. Due to uncertainty regarding optimal security arrangements for flights to Morocco and a requirement to operate with chartered aircraft, Arkia has chosen to suspend its services. Flights will not resume until security issues are resolved.
El Al, through its subsidiary Sun D'or, had also planned to reintroduce flights to Morocco in mid-November but has since reversed this intention. El Al has not yet issued an official statement regarding tickets already sold. Israir had already stopped selling tickets to Marrakech last week, despite Israeli airlines planning a significant increase in flights to the destination during November.
Arkia stated, "Following the demand of Israeli security officials, Arkia is stopping ticket sales to Marrakech until further notice and is examining the continuation of the route." The company is in contact with relevant authorities and security bodies to discuss the possibility of continuing operations and the implications for already sold tickets. Arkia also indicated that if Israeli authorities decide to halt flights by Israeli companies to Marrakech, Arkia will explore alternatives, including operating flights through commercial partners.
