דובר צה"ל מסר כי במהלך פעילות שגרתית של כוחות צה"ל במרחב הקו הצהוב, כלי הנדסי עלה על מטען. באירוע לא היו נפגעים לכוחותינו. צה"ל הגדיר את האירוע כהפרה בוטה של הסכם הפסקת האש על ידי חמאס.

בתגובה לפיצוץ המטען, תקפו כוחות צה"ל תשתיות של ארגון הטרור חמאס ברצועת עזה. לפי הדיווח, תשתיות אלו שימשו את הארגון לקידום מתווי טרור נגד אזרחי ישראל וכוחות צה"ל.

כוחות צה"ל בפיקוד הדרום פרוסים במרחב בהתאם להסכם, והם ימשיכו לפעול להסרת כל איום מיידי.
