בן חסין, יהודי קנדי-ישראלי בן 31 ממוצא כורדי, שוחרר מבית הכלא בכורדיסטן לאחר 11 שנות מאסר, ובכך ניצל מעונש מוות. חסין צפוי לשוב לישראל בימים הקרובים. עונש המוות שהוטל עליו בוטל בעקבות הסכם סולחה שהושג בשנה שעברה. חסין הורשע בגרימת מותו של אזרח כורדי.

המאמצים לשחרורו של חסין כללו פעילות בינלאומית נרחבת, בראשות עורך הדין אלן לאווי וצוות פעילים מארצות הברית, ביניהם הערשל גאטדינער, שמעון רלניצקי, מאיר צבי טויבר ושלמה לאנדו.
