צה"ל חיסל הלילה (שבת) ברצועת עזה את מפקד חטיבת רפיח של חמאס, מוחמד סראג' א-דין, בתקיפה ממוקדת. א-דין נחשב לאחד ממפקדי השדה הבכירים בארגון.

על פי דיווחים, התקיפה בוצעה באמצעות כלי טיס של חיל האוויר, אשר כיוונו למתחם בו שהה א-דין. התקיפה בוצעה כחלק ממאמץ מתמשך של צה"ל ושב"כ לחסל את הנהגת חמאס.

מוחמד סראג' א-דין היה אחראי על גזרת רפיח, אחת מהזירות המרכזיות בלחימה ברצועת עזה. הוא נחשב לדמות מפתח בארגון, וחיסולו מהווה פגיעה משמעותית ביכולותיו הצבאיות של חמאס.
