צה"ל חיסל את מפקד חטיבת רפיח של חמאס, מוחמד סראג' אל-דין, בתקיפה אווירית ברצועת עזה. אל-דין נחשב לאחד ממפקדי השטח הבכירים בארגון והיה אחראי על תכנון והוצאה לפועל של פעולות טרור נגד ישראל. חיסולו מהווה פגיעה משמעותית ביכולותיו הצבאיות של חמאס ברפיח.

במסגרת המבצע, צה"ל תקף גם תשתיות טרור של חמאס באזור רפיח, כולל מנהרות ומחסני נשק. התקיפה בוצעה על בסיס מודיעין מדויק של אמ"ן והשב"כ, אשר הצביע על נוכחותו של אל-דין במקום.
