צה"ל והשב"כ הודיעו כי תקפו בדרום רצועת עזה מחבל בכיר בחמאס, אשר על פי ההערכות הוא מפקד חטיבת רפיח בארגון. התקיפה התרחשה ביום שלישי.

בסוף השבוע שעבר, צה"ל חיסל בחאן יונס את מוחסן פריד סעיד אבו הדאף, ראש חוליית רקטות בג'יהאד האסלאמי. אבו הדאף השתתף בפשיטה על מרחב כיסופים במהלך אירועי השבעה באוקטובר.

על פי הדיווח, בתקופה האחרונה קידם אבו הדאף מתווי טרור נגד כוחות צה"ל ואזרחי ישראל, תוך הפרה שיטתית של הפסקת האש.
