דובר צה"ל הודיע כי בסוף השבוע שעבר חוסל בחאן יונס שבדרום רצועת עזה המחבל מוחסן פריד סעיד אבו הדאף, ראש חוליית רקטות בגא"פ. לפי הודעת צה"ל, אבו הדאף השתתף בפשיטה על קיבוץ כיסופים בטבח 7 באוקטובר, וקידם מתווי טרור נגד כוחות צה"ל ואזרחים ישראלים תוך הפרת הפסקת האש. החיסול בוצע על מנת לסכל את האיום שהציב. צה"ל הדגיש כי לפני התקיפה ננקטו אמצעים לצמצום פגיעה באזרחים, כולל שימוש בחימוש מדויק ותצפית מהאוויר.
