צה"ל ושב"כ הודיעו כי תקפו לפני זמן קצר בכיר בארגון הטרור חמאס בדרום רצועת עזה. פרטים נוספים על התקיפה ועל זהות הבכיר שחוסל יפורסמו בהמשך. התקיפה בוצעה בדרום הרצועה, באזור העיר רפיח.
