Jerusalem launches three-month cultural program in neighborhood shopping centers

Jerusalem is rolling out dozens of culture and leisure events at neighborhood commercial centers across the city over about three months. The program includes music performances, street shows, community festivals, children’s activities, booths and seating areas, turning the centers into local hubs for recreation, meeting and family entertainment.

The events will be held in shopping centers in Beit Hakerem, East Talpiot, Pisgat Ze'ev, Neve Yaakov, Katamon, Har Homa, Givat Mordechai, Yuvalim and other neighborhoods. Each site will feature activities tailored to the character of the local community, with the goal of strengthening public space, increasing visits to local businesses and offering residents an accessible summer experience close to home.

The city says the initiative is led by the municipality through its Business Promotion Department, together with the Culture Department, and is designed to reinforce neighborhood commercial centers, increase foot traffic and exposure for local shops, expand cultural and leisure activity in public space, and strengthen community ties. The activities will be run with the community administrations and local businesses, and will be adapted to each neighborhood's unique profile.

Mayor Moshe Leon said neighborhood commercial centers are an important engine for community life and Jerusalem's local economy, adding that the program is meant to support neighborhood businesses and create a lively, welcoming public space. Kfir Naiman, head of the city’s Business Promotion Department, said the centers are “much more than a place for shopping,” while city council member Ariel Baziz said boosting the local economy in neighborhoods is a central goal and invited residents to attend and support nearby businesses.
