Two Pharmacists Arrested for Allegedly Stealing and Selling IDF Medications

An undercover investigation spanning several months has led to the arrest of two pharmacists suspected of stealing tens of thousands of medications intended for Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers. The probe, conducted by the "Yamar Erezim" investigators in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense, Military Police, and Ministry of Health, focused on a senior pharmacist at the Glilot base and another pharmacist employed as an external contractor by the Ministry of Defense.

Investigators uncovered evidence suggesting the pharmacists defrauded the military, taking numerous prescription and non-prescription drugs. They allegedly engaged in systematic illicit sales of these medications on the "black market," accumulating tens of thousands of shekels. The sale of prescription drugs without a medical prescription poses a significant public health risk.

Following the transition to an open investigation, both pharmacists were apprehended on suspicion of theft by an authorized person, receiving goods under aggravating circumstances, reckless endangerment, and violations of the Pharmacists Ordinance. Several other suspects have also been detained for questioning.

The Military Police are investigating additional individuals involved in the case, who are suspected of theft by an authorized person, aiding in fraud under aggravating circumstances, and other related offenses. The military prosecution is overseeing these proceedings.
