Two veteran pharmacists have been arrested on suspicion of stealing tens of thousands of medications intended for Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and selling them on the black market. The arrests followed a covert investigation by the Ministry of Defense and the Military Police.

The suspects, identified as a responsible pharmacist at the Glilot base and another pharmacist employed as an external supplier by the Ministry of Defense, allegedly turned the supply of military medicine into a lucrative personal business. The investigation, which spanned several months, was a joint effort by the Erezim intelligence unit of the security establishment, the Dan region unit of the Military Police, and the enforcement division of the Ministry of Health.

Early findings indicate the pharmacists exploited their positions and access to fraudulently obtain tens of thousands of prescription drugs, including sensitive medications, meant for soldiers. These drugs were systematically removed from the system and sold privately, netting the suspects tens of thousands of shekels at the public's expense. The case raises serious questions about the exploitation of trust by external contractors within sensitive IDF logistical systems.

Security officials stated the investigation is ongoing and will examine further aspects of the affair. The arrests highlight the critical need for stringent oversight of external suppliers in sensitive sectors, particularly those related to health and security. This incident joins a series of past fraud cases involving public systems, including a large-scale fraud in Israeli football and a violent robbery case.
