Six Haredi Men Detained at Ben Gurion Airport Over Draft Evasion

Security personnel at Ben Gurion Airport apprehended six Haredi men attempting to depart Israel on flights. Two individuals were stopped at Terminal 1, while the other four were detained at Terminal 3. All six were transferred to the Population and Immigration Authority for status verification.

During the investigation, it was discovered that each of the men had outstanding military draft orders, legally prohibiting their departure from the country. These orders meant they were not permitted to board outgoing flights.

The detentions occur amidst a recent surge in arrests of yeshiva students. One notable case involved Israel Guchafi, a student from the Kfar Chassidim yeshiva, who was arrested in Haifa after an altercation with an inspector regarding a Rav-Kav card malfunction and subsequently handed over to military police.

In response to these arrests, members of the radical 'Herztzponim' faction of the Jerusalem Faction group staged protests and blocked roads in central Israel. Road 4 (Geha Highway) and several sections of Jabotinsky Road were closed to traffic as part of the demonstrations against the detention of yeshiva students.
