Six Haredi Men Detained at Ben Gurion Airport Trying to Flee Draft
Six Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) Jewish men were apprehended by security teams at Ben Gurion Airport on Wednesday as they attempted to leave Israel, according to the Airports Authority. The men, who are reportedly subject to military conscription, were allegedly trying to travel to Uman, Ukraine, for the Rosh Hashanah holiday.
Two of the individuals were stopped at Terminal 1, while the other four were detained at Terminal 3. Following their apprehension, the six were transferred to the Population and Immigration Authority for further processing.
An investigation revealed that the men had outstanding conscription orders, which legally prevent them from departing the country. The authorities did not specify the exact nature of their conscription status, only that it prohibited their exit.
