Ben Gurion Airport Tightens Security to Prevent Draft Dodgers Fleeing to Uman

Ben Gurion Airport is implementing new security measures to prevent draft dodgers from leaving Israel, particularly ahead of the upcoming flights to Uman for Rosh Hashanah. The airport authorities, in coordination with the Ministry of Transportation, the Population and Immigration Authority, and the IDF, are reinforcing border control checkpoints with military police and transportation ministry representatives to assist immigration officials.

A dedicated detention vehicle will be stationed on the tarmac to apprehend individuals attempting to evade exit procedures. This initiative aims to close security loopholes exploited in recent months due to heavy passenger congestion, where individuals prohibited from leaving the country have been attaching themselves to legitimate travelers to bypass passport control without proper stamping.

The airport experienced significant congestion and negative international attention in recent weeks, prompting this coordinated effort to prevent a recurrence. The enhanced security presence is expected to begin within days, coinciding with increased flight activity to Uman.

The measures are designed to prevent individuals from passing through passport control without their passports being stamped, thereby preventing them from boarding flights. Security officials anticipate a substantial increase in passengers traveling to countries bordering Ukraine in the lead-up to the flights to Uman.
