The Bank of Israel announced on Tuesday its decision to lower the benchmark interest rate by 0.25%, bringing it to 3.25%. This marks the third consecutive rate cut and the fourth reduction in 2026. Consequently, the prime lending rate, which influences most loans and mortgages in the economy, will decrease to 4.75%.
The central bank cited the annual inflation rate of just 1.5% as a key factor supporting the decision. This inflation level is the lowest recorded since May 2021.
This series of three consecutive rate cuts is a significant economic move. The last time such a sequence occurred was during the peak of the 2008 financial crisis, when the Bank of Israel implemented five successive rate reductions.
