Doctor Charged After Dramatic Police Chase, M16 Found in Vehicle

A 29-year-old doctor from Rahat has been indicted after a dramatic police chase in northern Israel on August 10th. Police attempted to stop the suspect's vehicle for a traffic violation near the Beit Rimmon interchange on Route 77, but the driver fled. The pursuit lasted several kilometers, during which officers fired at the vehicle's tires. The chase concluded when the suspect crashed into a police car that blocked his path, leading to his arrest.

Following the arrest, police discovered an M16 rifle in a bag that had been thrown from the suspect's car during the chase. Another driver reported running over a bag, which was later found to contain the weapon. Authorities stated that the M16 matched additional parts found in the suspect's vehicle. The suspect, who recently completed his medical exams, was arrested and subsequently indicted by the prosecution, which also requested his detention until the end of legal proceedings.

A similar incident occurred in Shfaram earlier this month, where a driver evaded police, driving against traffic. During that chase, Border Police officers shot at the car's tires, leading to the arrest of two young men and the seizure of a Glock pistol.
