Doctor Charged After M16 Rifle Found in Discarded Bag During Police Chase

A 29-year-old resident of Rahat, who recently completed medical exams, has been indicted after allegedly fleeing police in a high-speed chase in northern Israel. According to police, the incident occurred on August 10th on Highway 77 near the Beit Rimmon interchange when officers attempted to stop the suspect's vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver refused to stop, leading to a pursuit lasting several kilometers. During the chase, police fired at the vehicle's tires, and the suspect was apprehended after colliding with a police car that blocked his path.

During the escape, officers observed a bag being thrown from the suspect's car. This bag was later found to contain various weapons. A search of the suspect's vehicle also uncovered additional related parts. Shortly after, a civilian reported finding a bag dragged under her car on the same highway. Police examined this bag and discovered an M16 rifle, which investigators stated matched the parts found in the suspect's car.

The suspect was arrested and interrogated by officers from the Northern District. Following the investigation, the prosecution filed an indictment and requested that he be held in custody until the end of legal proceedings. Police noted that since the beginning of the year, over 610 lethal weapons have been seized by officers and Border Police in the Northern District, and efforts to locate illegal weapons are ongoing.
