Israeli Police Seize M-16 Hidden in Rahat Kindergarten Sandbox, Arrest Suspect
Israeli police officers from the Rahat station and National Guard fighters discovered an M-16 rifle concealed in a sandbox at a kindergarten in Rahat, along with dozens of 9mm ammunition rounds and a pistol magazine. The operation was part of the Israel Police's "Iron Net" campaign targeting illegal firearms possession and gunfire incidents in the city.
The discovery followed a report on August 9 of gunfire directed at a vehicle in Rahat. Police and National Guard personnel conducted a focused search in a residential area near the incident, which included the kindergarten site where the weapon was found. Subsequently, a Rahat resident in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the shooting and illegal possession of the firearm and ammunition.
The Israel Police Southern District stated that they will continue efforts to combat illegal gun possession and usage, focusing on those who hold, hide, and use weapons that threaten public safety.
