Israeli Police Find M-16 Hidden in Sandpit at Rahat Kindergarten, Arrest Suspect

Israeli police and National Guard forces in Rahat uncovered an M-16 rifle concealed in a sandpit at a local kindergarten during an operation targeting illegal firearms. The search also yielded dozens of 9mm bullets and a pistol magazine. A Rahat resident in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of involvement in a shooting incident and illegal weapons possession.

The operation was part of the police's "Iron Net" campaign, which focuses on combating gun violence and illegal arms possession in the city. The investigation began after a report on August 9 of gunfire directed at a vehicle in Rahat. Police and National Guard units tracked down the suspect and raided a residential compound that included the kindergarten where the weapons were found.

Authorities stated that the suspect is believed to have been involved in the shooting and is now facing charges related to illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The Southern District police emphasized their ongoing commitment to cracking down on gun-related crimes and protecting public safety by targeting those who possess, hide, or use illegal weapons.
