Police Seize M-16 Rifle, Ammunition in East Jerusalem Raid

Jerusalem District Police and the Border Police in Judea and Samaria conducted a targeted operation in the village of Swahra, East Jerusalem, leading to the arrest of a 27-year-old resident. The raid, based on precise intelligence, uncovered a significant cache of weapons hidden within the home, including an advanced M-16 assault rifle, numerous loaded magazines, and black masks.

Dramatic footage released by the police shows officers meticulously searching the residence, discovering black bags and packages concealed in various hiding spots. Equipped with protective gloves, officers carefully removed the weapons, which were reportedly ready for use and could have potentially fallen into the hands of hostile elements for carrying out terrorist attacks or criminal acts.

The suspect, an East Jerusalem resident, was apprehended at the scene and taken for interrogation by the Special Tasks Unit of the Jerusalem District Police. His arrest was extended by the Magistrate's Court until September 28, 2026, following a police request.

Authorities emphasized that this seizure is part of an ongoing, determined effort to combat illegal weaponry. Since the beginning of 2026, over 120 legal and illegal weapons have been confiscated in the Jerusalem district alone. Security officials stressed that each weapon seized prevents potential disaster and thwarts the acquisition of arms by hostile actors, vowing to continue such operations with full force to ensure public safety.
