Doctor Arrested After Leading Police on Chase, Found with M-16 Parts

A 29-year-old doctor from Rahat, Sami Ben Halil, has been indicted for illegally transporting weapons and other offenses after leading police on a chase in the Lower Galilee. The Northern District Prosecutor's Office filed charges against Ben Halil, accusing him of weapon transport, obstruction of justice, reckless driving, and interfering with a police officer. His trial will take place at the Nazareth District Court.

The incident began when police officers at a random checkpoint near the Ha'Movil junction observed a vehicle attempting to bypass traffic by driving on the shoulder. When signaled to stop, the driver, identified as Ben Halil, fled the scene. Police reported that the fleeing vehicle collided with a police car before coming to a halt.

During the pursuit, Ben Halil allegedly threw a bag from his car. Police recovered the bag, which contained a double magazine filled with M-16 ammunition. A further search of the vehicle revealed another double magazine, a bolt assembly, and a cocking handle.

Separately, a civilian reported finding a bag containing an M-16 rifle on the road. She stated she had accidentally dragged the bag for several kilometers. The rifle found in her possession was missing the bolt assembly and cocking handle. Forensic analysis in Jerusalem confirmed a complete match between the parts found by the civilian and those recovered from Ben Halil's vehicle.

Ben Halil, who recently completed his medical studies, denied the charges, claiming the arrest would ruin his life and that he wishes to be a doctor. His attorney stated that his client is a completely normal citizen and denies all charges.
