IDF Chief Visits Yerocham Hesder Yeshiva, Praises Torah Study as Military Strength Multiplier

On Tuesday, IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir visited the Hesder Yeshiva in Yerocham for a three-hour meeting and tour, marking a unique and first-of-its-kind visit. During the visit, Zamir met with the yeshiva's leaders, Rabbis Chaim Wolfson and Uriel Eitam, as well as the heads of the Hesder Yeshivot Association, Uri Pinsky and Eliezer Deutsch. He also met with students who were wounded during their military service.

The meeting began with a memorial for the ten students and alumni of the yeshiva who were killed in the recent "Sword of Iron" war. The yeshiva leaders presented Zamir with a memorial wall and shared stories about the fallen. Ephraim Yachman’s brother, who died in combat in Gaza in December 2023, spoke about his dedication to combining Torah study with military service even under harsh conditions.

Zamir addressed the students in the study hall, emphasizing the strength and leadership emanating from the Hesder Yeshivot. He described the yeshiva system as a vital source of leadership and unity for the Israeli people and the IDF, noting that Hesder graduates serve in all units and frontlines. Zamir highlighted the importance of Torah study as a spiritual force that multiplies the IDF’s strength, stating, "The strength of the IDF is the product of material and spiritual power, not just one or the other."

The yeshiva heads responded by affirming their commitment to integrating Torah study with responsibility for Israel’s security. They emphasized that this dual path requires dedication both to the study hall and to meaningful military service. They welcomed Zamir’s visit during the month of Elul as recognition of the inseparable connection between Torah, responsibility, and national defense, describing the Hesder Yeshiva as a profound path cultivating commitment to Torah, the people, and the state.
