Rare August Rainstorm Expected to Break Records Across Israel Next Week

Following an extended period of intense heat throughout August, Israel's Meteorological Service forecasts a rare and potentially unprecedented rain event starting the night between Saturday and Sunday. This unusual late-summer storm is expected to bring localized rainfall to northern Israel, the central region, the coastal plain, the Shephelah, and inland areas. By Sunday morning, some locations could see double-digit millimeter precipitation, an exceptionally rare occurrence for August. This will be the second consecutive rain event this month, a phenomenon already considered unusual by meteorologists. If the forecast holds, it may break previous seasonal rainfall records.

August has been marked by an unusual combination of higher-than-normal temperatures alongside rare rain events. Mid-month, heavy rains affected northern Israel and Jerusalem's surroundings, with Maale Adumim recording an exceptional 21 millimeters of rain in one hour, followed by 25 millimeters, volumes highly atypical for the summer season.
