Infant Dies Six Weeks After Mother Killed in Head-On Crash Near Ashdod

Hadar Cohen, an infant who was delivered prematurely following a fatal car accident that killed her mother, passed away after six weeks of intensive care. The tragedy began about six weeks ago when Tzofia Cohen, heavily pregnant and from Jerusalem, was involved in a severe head-on collision near the Ashdod port on the road to Skov. The crash caused significant front-end damage to both vehicles.

Tzofia Cohen was rushed to Assuta Hospital in Ashdod in critical condition with multiple injuries. Emergency teams simultaneously mobilized trauma, delivery, and neonatal units to try to save both mother and child. As her condition rapidly worsened, doctors performed an emergency cesarean section. Sadly, Tzofia Cohen was declared dead during the surgery, while her newborn daughter was transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit in critical condition.

Emergency medical technician Israel Meir Gian from Magen David Adom described the scene as a severe head-on collision involving two vehicles, with the mother unconscious and suffering multiple injuries. For six weeks, family, friends, and the public prayed for the infant's recovery. However, the hospital announced the infant Hadar Cohen's death at Assuta Hospital in Ashdod, deepening the family's grief. The community mourns the loss of both mother and child in this devastating accident.
