Jewish Actress Hannah Einbinder Defends Mark Ruffalo Against Antisemitism Accusations

Jewish actress and comedian Hannah Einbinder has publicly supported actor Mark Ruffalo following accusations of antisemitism linked to his comments about Paramount and the Allison family. The controversy erupted after Ruffalo criticized the Allison family's ties to Israel and their involvement in military technology, which some interpreted as antisemitic. Einbinder, known for her outspoken stance against Israel since the outbreak of the recent war and for her "Free Palestine" statement at last year’s Emmy Awards, defended Ruffalo on Instagram. She praised him for connecting the Allison family’s provision of military technology to Israel with their unprecedented media control, warning of the dangers of concentrated power.

Einbinder argued that attributing Ruffalo’s criticism to the Allison family’s Jewish identity is unfounded. She cited examples such as Safra Catz, Oracle’s vice chair who has supported supplying technology to the Israeli military, and Larry Allison’s political donations to Donald Trump and his past offers to Benjamin Netanyahu. Einbinder emphasized that Ruffalo’s remarks target oligarchs consolidating media power rather than Jews as a group. She also linked opposition to the planned Paramount-Warner Bros merger to concerns about its impact on entertainment industry workers. Einbinder concluded by urging artists to emulate Ruffalo’s willingness to speak out for oppressed people worldwide.

Ruffalo himself rejected the antisemitism allegations in a lengthy post on X, stating that criticism of Israeli government actions, military technology contracts, or executives involved is not equivalent to criticism of Jewish people. The dispute began after Ruffalo shared a video of Safra Catz discussing Oracle’s military technology support to the Israeli Defense Forces during the Gaza conflict, highlighting that Larry Allison uses Oracle to finance his son David’s acquisition of Warner Bros.
