Oscar-Winning Filmmakers Abraham and Shor Premiere Gaza War Documentary at Venice Festival

Yuval Abraham and Rachel Shor, two of the four filmmakers who won the 2024 Oscar for Best Documentary with "No Other Land," will premiere their new documentary "NAZA" at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on September 10. The film, whose title is a Hebrew military acronym for "Spinal Damage," will compete in the festival's official competition. The filmmakers stated that "NAZA" was shot at night on rooftops in Tel Aviv and provides a detailed look at the military operations behind the calculated mass killing of Palestinians in Gaza by Israel since the Gaza war erupted following the October 7 massacre.

Produced by the British newspaper The Guardian, with producers James Wilson and Jonathan Glazer (the latter two previously collaborated on the Oscar-winning international film "Area of Interest" in 2024), the documentary draws on investigative findings first published between 2023 and 2025 by Israeli outlets Local Call and Magazine 972+, alongside The Guardian. The film is the only documentary competing at this year's Venice festival. One of the filmmakers remarked, "I can imagine us winning an Oscar, but in the end, one of us returns home without infrastructure and electricity."
