New Documentary by 'No Other Country' Directors Joins Venice Film Festival Competition
The Venice International Film Festival announced a last-minute addition to its prestigious competition lineup: NAZA, a new documentary directed by Yuval Avraham and Rachel Shore. Avraham and Shore were two of the four directors behind the Oscar-winning documentary No Other Country, which won the Academy Award in 2025. NAZA was produced by the British newspaper The Guardian and James Wilson of JW Films, with Oscar-winning director Jonathan Glazer overseeing the production. Wilson and Glazer previously collaborated on the Oscar-winning film The Zone of Interest.
According to the production description, NAZA was filmed at night on rooftops in Tel Aviv and provides a detailed exposé of the systems behind the calculated mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza by Israel. The film is set to premiere on September 10 in the Sala Grande theater at the Palazzo del Cinema, with the directors, producers, Guardian journalists, and official delegation in attendance.
The announcement comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding Israeli and Palestinian films at international festivals, including the Israeli Oscar 2026 submission Sea by Shay Carmeli Polk and criticism of the Palestinian Oscar-winning film as "sabotage against the State of Israel."
