Health Ministry Closes All Haifa Beaches Immediately Over Water Quality Concerns

The Israeli Ministry of Health has ordered the immediate closure of all beaches in Haifa and Kiryat Yam due to irregular water quality test results. The directive was issued on August 24, 2026, amid the peak summer swimming season, with authorities urging the public to avoid entering the sea until further notice. The reasons behind the abnormal water samples remain unclear at this stage.

The Haifa municipality stated that repeat water sampling will be conducted during the day, and future decisions regarding the continuation or lifting of the swimming ban will depend on these results and Health Ministry guidelines. Residents are advised to comply with the instructions and refrain from swimming until official updates are provided.

This closure follows a similar swimming warning issued about two weeks earlier for Haifa beaches, Carmel Beach, and Student Beach, which was lifted after one day but has now been reinstated due to recurring microbial contamination detected in sea water quality tests.
