Jerusalem Faction Plans Mass Protests Over Yeshiva Student Arrests in Central Israel

The Jerusalem Faction, a hardline ultra-Orthodox group, has announced large-scale protests and road blockades tomorrow in central Israel following the arrest of two yeshiva students handed over to the military police. One of the students, Israel Gochfi from the Kfar Hasidim yeshiva, was detained in Haifa due to a technical issue with his public transport card and was subsequently suspected of draft evasion. The other student, Mordechai Mishkovsky, a member of the Netivot Yitzhak yeshiva in Tel Aviv and grandson of prominent rabbi Nathan Zuchovsky, was arrested near Beit Shean and also transferred to military custody.

The protests, led by Rabbi Tzvi Friedman of the Jerusalem Faction, are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and are expected to cause significant traffic disruptions on major roads, including Highway 4. The organization "Am Kadosh," which supports the detainees, condemned the arrests as "kidnappings" to military prisons and is providing legal assistance and guidance to the families. This renewed tension follows a period of relative calm regarding the contentious issue of ultra-Orthodox military conscription in Israel.
