Israeli Prison Service Reports Deaths of Two Inmates Including Elderly Sex Offender

The Israeli Prison Service announced the deaths of two inmates in custody. Aryeh Gottlieb, a 79-year-old criminal prisoner from northern Israel, died at the Magan Nitzan detention center. His medical condition was kept confidential. Gottlieb was sentenced in June for a series of severe sexual offenses committed between 1997 and 2001 against a victim who was only 11 years old at the time.

Additionally, a 35-year-old illegal resident detained at the Tzalmon prison also died while in custody, with his medical details similarly withheld for privacy. In both cases, the Prison Service stated that, as with every inmate death, an investigative team has been appointed to examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
