Israeli Man Charged with Racist Animal Abuse and Assault in West Bank
The Jerusalem District Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against Yedidya Kaufman, a 21-year-old resident of Beitar Illit, at the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court. Kaufman faces multiple accusations including animal abuse, racially motivated harm to animals, racially motivated assault, and other offenses. The alleged crimes occurred while he volunteered at an agricultural farm near Khirbet al-Tawil in the West Bank.
According to the indictment, Kaufman violently attacked activists who tried to stop him from unlawfully entering Palestinian homes, using punches and kicks. In a separate serious incident, he drove an off-road vehicle at high speed directly into a flock of sheep belonging to a Palestinian shepherd. Kaufman reportedly ran over the sheep and refused to move his vehicle while the animals remained trapped under the wheels.
The case highlights tensions in the region involving settler violence and racially charged attacks against Palestinians and their property. The legal proceedings will continue in the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court as the prosecution seeks accountability for these acts.
