Avi Nesher Opens Haifa Film Festival and Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Avi Nesher's new film, "Our Loves," will open the 42nd Haifa International Film Festival. At the opening night, Nesher will be honored with the festival's Lifetime Achievement Award for his cinematic excellence and outstanding contribution to Israeli culture. The film, inspired by real events, follows seven intertwined characters against the backdrop of the October 7 massacre. It stars Shalom Michaelshvili, Magi Azarzar, Yaniv Biton, Hadas Yaron, and Evelin Hagoel, among others.
"Our Loves" will premiere in Haifa following its world debut at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it was selected for the prestigious "Centrepiece" program. In Israel, the film has already received significant recognition with 12 Ophir Award nominations, including Best Feature Film, from the Israeli Academy of Film and Television.
Haifa Festival artistic director Yaron Shamir described the film as offering "a painful view we have all experienced, but also hope, compassion, and the possibility of healing." The festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Haifa Municipality, and other government ministries.
