Ashdod Nears Deal for Hapoel Kfar Saba Goalkeeper as Niemczycki Exit Looms
M.S. Ashdod, which has been relegated to the National League, has begun accelerating its squad rebuild ahead of the new season. The club has already signed former Maccabi Herzliya defender Ran Vatouri, and a second addition now appears close.
According to a report on Sport Channel, Hapoel Kfar Saba goalkeeper Razi Abu Hamdan is on the verge of joining Ashdod. In recent years, he had been linked to the backup goalkeeper role when Ashdod was still in the Premier League.
Ashdod’s current first-choice goalkeeper is Polish keeper Karol Niemczycki, who was bought last summer from Darmstadt for 250,000 euros. However, Niemczycki does not want to play in the second division, and Ashdod does not want to waste a foreign-player slot on a goalkeeper.
Niemczycki still has two years left on his contract, so the club is reluctant to give up on its investment. As a result, he will likely be loaned out or sold if a buyer is found. Reports in Poland say WKS Śląsk Wrocław is interested in him.
