Ben Gurion Airport Gradually Resumes Flights After Major Disruptions

Ben Gurion Airport announced that flight operations, including takeoffs and landings, will gradually resume starting at 3:00 PM following significant disruptions earlier in the day. The resumption will follow a reorganization of the flight schedule, and passengers are urged to stay updated with their airlines regarding flight times and possible changes.

The disruptions occurred on an especially busy day, with over 100,000 passengers expected to pass through the airport. Earlier reports indicated a halt in international check-ins and baggage handling, causing delays and flight adjustments. Arkia Airlines noted that several international flights were delayed while others continued to operate, with staff working to minimize passenger impact and restore normal service as soon as possible.

The Transport Workers Union rejected claims that the disruptions were due to a sudden strike, stating no work stoppage was ordered. Instead, the union blamed the chaos on a chronic shortage of personnel and inadequate preparation for the summer travel surge. They emphasized that warnings about insufficient staffing had been repeatedly issued to the Airport Authority and the Transport Minister for months without adequate response.

The union highlighted the ongoing strain on existing employees trying to maintain airport operations amid these challenges and warned of potential burnout.
