IDF Returns Remains of Yehuda Katz, Last Missing Soldier from 1982 Syria Battle
The Israel Defense Forces informed the family of Yehuda Katz, the last missing soldier from the 1982 Battle of Sultan Yacoub in Syria, that a significant finding related to his disappearance was discovered. Katz's remains were returned to Israel in a special operation conducted within Syria. This development follows previous returns of fallen soldiers from the same battle: in 2025, the body of Zvi Feldman was brought back in a covert Mossad operation, and in 2019, Zacharia Baumel's remains were returned from Syria with Russian assistance. Yehuda Katz had been officially classified as missing until now, marking the closure of the last unresolved case from that conflict.
