Sderot Mayor Credits Finance Minister Smotrich for Pushing Enemy Away from Border

Alon Davidi, the mayor of Sderot, publicly praised Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich during a visit to the Hesder Yeshiva in the city. Davidi described Smotrich as a close ally of Sderot, the periphery, the settlement movement, and the people of Israel. He credited Smotrich with a decisive role in the ongoing conflict, specifically for ensuring a significant military achievement that pushed enemy forces three to four kilometers away from the city’s border.

Davidi emphasized Smotrich’s steadfastness during the war, noting that despite criticism and harsh labels such as "hater" and "indifferent," Smotrich insisted that the hostage deal be accompanied by a major military victory. "The credit belongs to Bezalel Smotrich and that must be acknowledged," Davidi said. He also expressed hope that Smotrich would continue to represent his constituents and the people of Israel with strength in the Knesset.

In response, Smotrich warmly praised Mayor Davidi, calling him one of the most talented and professional local leaders he has encountered in his 11 years in politics and four years as finance minister. Smotrich highlighted Davidi’s clear vision and ability to translate it into detailed plans, contributing significantly to Sderot’s current state. He acknowledged divine assistance but credited Davidi’s leadership for much of the city’s progress.
