Aviv Geffen Criticizes Police Chief’s Suspension of Right-Wing Activist Yoav Eliasi

About three weeks ago, Israel Police Commissioner Major General Danni Levi suspended Yoav Eliasi, known as "The Shadow," from his role as commander of the rapid response unit in the Tel Aviv district. This decision followed a report by Haaretz revealing Eliasi's claims of close ties with police officials who allegedly helped prevent the closure of a nightlife venue in which he was a partner. Eliasi was recorded telling a business partner that the club was untouchable and demanding immediate notification of any police inquiries, expressing anger when police ordered the club's closure after a violent incident.

In response to the suspension, Israeli musician Aviv Geffen posted a pointed comment on his Instagram story, lamenting, "It's a shame all the good ones are dismissed, so many achievements and vision." The police also confiscated Eliasi's firearm and the Police Investigations Department launched an inquiry into the allegations raised by the report. Eliasi was heard in the recordings referencing a police officer, Menashe Menzur from the Tel Aviv station, calling him a close friend and stating he would speak with him personally.
