Tensions Flare as Yaniv Megal Claims Tali Gottlieb May Defect to Otzma Yehudit

A sharp confrontation erupted on Sunday evening between Israeli media personality Yaniv Megal and Knesset member Tali Gottlieb following Megal's report of an emergency meeting allegedly held in Prime Minister Netanyahu's office. Megal claimed the meeting was convened due to concerns that Gottlieb and Minister May Golan might defect to Otzma Yehudit after the upcoming elections, potentially taking a Knesset mandate with them. According to Megal, "sources close to Netanyahu" indicated that Netanyahu found these developments "disturbing," as polls suggested the two politicians were harming Likud's prospects by deterring two to three potential mandates. Despite this, Netanyahu reportedly instructed his team not to interfere, expressing trust in Likud voters' choices. Megal added that Netanyahu-affiliated group leaders had already begun efforts to remove Gottlieb and Golan from their party lists.

Gottlieb swiftly denied the claims, labeling Megal's report as a "vile lie" and asserting that Netanyahu was not in his office and no such discussion was taking place. She emphasized her loyalty to the right-wing camp and her value to Likud, stating she could command six mandates if running independently. Gottlieb also accused Megal of attempting to smear her and intimidate voters, referencing past controversies involving Megal's associates. She hinted at an official Likud denial forthcoming and concluded with a sharp rebuke, saying, "The God you believe in no longer believes in you."

Minister May Golan also refuted Megal's report, calling it "pathetic, false, and distorted." She noted that Netanyahu had recently expressed strong support for her and acknowledged the political persecution she faces due to her unwavering loyalty to him and Likud. Golan quoted Netanyahu as saying that if she were to waver in her allegiance, fabricated investigations against her would be closed within 24 hours. Netanyahu reportedly urged her to ignore the noise and continue her efforts with full force.
