Israeli Police Raid Wedding in Umm al-Fahm Using Shock Grenades but Make No Arrests

In a rare incident overnight between Saturday and Sunday, Israeli police forces conducted a large-scale raid on a wedding in the city of Umm al-Fahm. The officers threw stun grenades, ordered attendees to lie on the ground, and conducted searches. However, according to those present, the police left without making any arrests. The police explained that the operation was based on suspicion of firearms use during the wedding.

Wedding participants expressed confusion and frustration over the police action, stating there was no shooting or other illegal activity at the event. Video footage shows guests lying on the floor while officers move among them, with overturned chairs visible. Mustafa al-Afan, the groom's father, described the scene: "We were celebrating our son's happiness, everyone was joyful, dancing and singing. Suddenly, police forces stormed in and threw grenades. They ordered everyone to lie down silently and then searched the place. They also broke chairs and spoke disrespectfully. There was no shooting or illegal acts, yet they chose to ruin the celebration."

Al-Afan accused the police of targeting the neighborhood unnecessarily and questioned the destruction of property such as chairs and a confiscated hookah. He lamented the lack of respect shown to young and old alike and called for an end to the pressure on Arab communities, emphasizing the need for peace and safety at weddings instead of violence.

The Israeli police stated the raid was conducted following suspicions of weapon use at the wedding and that officers acted to investigate and locate any arms. They affirmed their commitment to combating gunfire at weddings decisively and without compromise.
